Iodine crystal clear min. 99.8%

Chemical formula:

Iodine is slightly soluble in water, and much better in an aqueous solution of potassium iodide (Lugol's liquid) and other organic solvents.

How to make Lugol's solution with a concentration of about 5%?

per 100ml liquid:

- potassium iodide

- 10 g (white),

- crystalline iodine

- 5 g (black - colors the water with a dark color and gives a characteristic taste)

- distilled (or demineralized) water

- available in hypermarkets and at filling stations

- 100ml / g

Preparation:

pour 100 ml of distilled water into a container with a lid,

add 10 g of potassium iodide (white),

mix until completely dissolved.

Then stand for 60 minutes.

After this time, add 5 g of crystalline (black) iodine, mix vigorously and leave for about 12 hours.

APPLICATION

- dye production,

- in photography,

- a component of Lugol's fluid,

- starch detection in chemical analysis (iodine test),

- iodine pairs are used to develop thin layer chromatography plates,

- in effective chemical experiments.
