Manuka honey, compared to other European and tropical honeys, is primarily characterized by its native origin. They arise only in a few areas of New Zealand that are a natural refuge for rare shrubs of the Leptospermum scoparium genus. They are homogeneous honeys that were produced exclusively in New Zealand, during the period of flowering Manuka shrubs, which are mainly produced from the nectar of Leptospermum scoparium plants. These honeys should be additionally characterized by such features as: an appropriate range of specific conductivity, a unique sac called mineral, slightly bitter; strongly aromatic fragrance with noticeable notes of moist earth and heather; the presence of pollen characteristic of Manuka shrubs and active ingredients, including: methylglyoxal (MGO ™).
MGO ™ is an abbreviation for Methylgloxal - a natural substance recognized by scientists as a characteristic ingredient of Manuka honeys, which due to its high content differ from other honeys available on the market. Manuka Health New Zealand is a precursor and scientific leader of the MGO ™ method and a leading exporter of high-quality Manuka honey. HOW TO USE
