Mung beans, also known as golden beans, are plant species from the Fabaceae family. It comes from India, it is grown in South Asia, Malaysia and China, where it is an important ingredient of local cuisine, and due to its high protein content also in vegetarian cuisine. They are eaten both cooked and raw (after sprouting, in Poland called "soy sprouts"). In the Far East, mung beans are also used to produce "bean thread vermicelli", "cellophane noodles", also known as soybean. Mung beans are a natural source of potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron and zinc.
