It comes from the Mediterranean, southern Europe, North Africa and regions of Asia such as India and Pakistan. Is an annual plant that blooms from July to August. Wild specimens can be found in Poland. The flowers have a purple color, and the plant can grow up to 2 meters high.
The main active ingredient for which it is known is silymarin. However, it should be remembered that it is also a source of flavonoids, phytosterols of vitamins such as vitamin C and K, histamine, tyramine, garbin, mineral salts and high content of linoleic acid.
